Under the Purple Hard Hat

We are coming down to the wire. The interior is being sanded and painted. The exterior is having its finishing touches applied. I knew this day would come. My tel tale sign that the building was going through its final paces when they started earlier this week putting in the pavers for the sidewalks next to the building as well as all the protective coverings for the main lounge floor while they painted the ceiling. We don't have a hard date for the opening but with room selection currently going on and having all but a dozen rooms left to choose from after just one day it is feeling more and more like the opening day is right around the corner. I have new photos to place up this afternoon so check back then and see what has been updated.

Work is moving along. First floor lounge windows are the only exterior piece that is missing. Inside the smell of fresh paint and varnish are heavy in the air. The bathroom tilling is finished and hardwood floors have gone into the 4th and 5th floors. The weather has gotten very cold outside but luckily the building is nearing completion and is really quite cozy on the inside. It is interesting. I have been going in and out of Meier Hall since it was just a hole in the ground and was known as "the new dorm." I was there for the big pour and the major beams being put in to support the bulk of the 2nd and 3rd floor. I have become accustomed to seeing its progression to the point where i need to not be in the building everyday because i don't see what has changed. So last week I took my a Co-Worker slash EC alum into Meier Hall. Her excitement and awe of the building has helped me to remember what it was like to see something with new eyes. Where I simply pass by a room and snap a few photos she wanted to go into every room and see everything asking questions all along the way.

Many of the walls are up all the scaffolding is down and the building is beginning to look like something I hadn't expected. I have all of the digital renderings from the architect but until you see it in person it doesn't compare.

I have been neglecting my duties and for that I apologize. It has been a busy year so far with a Mountain Day several Open Houses as well as a trustee weekend and a Hoops Hysteria thrown in for good measure. Still the Meier Hall moves on. The scaffolding on the west and south wing is all down and bathroom walls are going up. The grotesques are now up as well so you can see them up on the west side looking down on all the people passing by. I will be adding new interior shots the the page later this week for you to see the fireplaces and bathrooms which are almost finished.

Scafolding is coming down and windows are going in. If you check out the photos you can see what is really happening. I know it may seem dramatic but that scafolding came down quickly.

As you may know the Lucky Class of 2013 has arrived on campus. So they have the privilage of seeing Meier Hall evolve and unveil first hand.

I have been on vacation so updates were kind of hard to make. In returning though I have had the chance to see a great deal done. Most of the facade is up and finished minus the front entrance and the main lounge windows. I have been trying to find out when we can see more of the grotesques that will be going up and hope to be able to get those images to you. Very soon we will be starting on the interior work as soon as the rest of the heating and electical work is done. It is nice to be able to walk up and down real stairs now and not the scafolding that was set up in the elevator shaft. I have pictures of the elevator shaft now which i think ar really cool.
